About the Blackfoot Family Lodge Society

Mission

To provide culturally appropriate interim and transitional housing to Indigenous women, families in Lethbridge.

Vision

Indigenous families successfully adjusting to urban living.

Established in 1993, the Blackfoot Family Lodge Society (BFLS) was born out of an identified need for transition accommodation and support for Indigenous women in Lethbridge.

With a vision of Indigenous families successfully adjusting to urban living, the BFLS mission is to provide culturally appropriate interim and transitional housing to Indigenous women and children in Lethbridge.

In 2009, BFLS relocated to its present property at 830 7th Street North, Lethbridge.

Along the spectrum of housing options in Lethbridge, BFLS provides transitional affordable housing for up to three years along with a cultural education program to develop knowledge, cultural connections, and confidence needed for Indigenous women and their children to successfully complete their transition into the urban setting. To date, BFLS has accommodated over 1200 women and children.

BFLS is a registered Canadian charity governed by an all-Indigenous Board of Directors consisting of members of the Blood and Piikani Reserves. Individually, the Board members bring an impressive array of knowledge and expertise to the table.
